How to Stop Procrastinating the Call of God: 3 Things You Are Lacking
Have you ever experienced depression or been down in the dumps?
It isn’t a great place to be, let me tell you. I have been in both places and neither is fun to get stuck in.
I was talking to a friend this morning about how we can literally choose how we feel.
This realization came to me right after I was laid off from a job I thought I would retire from in early 2020.
A co-worker from that job decided he was going into the insurance field. Since I had already worked in the insurance field previously I figured I would go back.
Long story after driving five hours to take the class and never actually making it to the class I drove all the way back home in a very angry mood.
When my friend, the former co-worker, asked if I would try again I replied “Honestly, I don’t know because I’m not done being mad yet.”
In that same moment I realized I had a choice. I was choosing to be mad. The same is true for depression and being down in the dumps.
Now some will argue that depression is a mental illness and that may be true however, I was once depressed.
It was in a deep dark depression that lasted seven years.
I still remember the day that I said “No more” and simply chose to not be depressed anymore.
Of course I didn’t know then that I was making a choice. All I knew was that I didn’t want to feel that way anymore and I was going to do something about it.
Procrastinating the call of God works the same way. Procrastination period works the same way. It’s a choice.
Just like staying stuck is a choice.
Everything is literally a choice.
This may be hard for some to comprehend but God would never Call you to do something He knows you wouldn’t be able to do.
Therefore when you procrastinate the call of God it is a choice you are making.
Okay…. I’m about to get honest and raw here. Just wanted to warn you.
First thing is first… you need to understand what causes procrastination.
Although many things can cause procrastination we are going to focus on the number one thing that holds people back from God’s Calling on their life.
And that my friend is OVERTHINKING!
When God has put a vision on your heart it is most likely a Big Vision because come on our God doesn’t play around.
So once you have that vision you begin to pretend you’re trying to decide what to do. When what you are actually doing is overthinking.
You aren’t really deciding the next step.
Instead you are subconsciously trying to figure out how to eliminate the risks, consequences, and potentially change the outcome.
This is why you procrastinate God’s Calling for your life.
Simply put, you are trying to control the situation.
What if instead you identify the actions you can take?
Friend, in the real world that is the only thing you have control over. The actions you take and in some cases the actions you don’t take.
So which will it be? Remember the choice is yours.
Now that we have that out of the way let’s talk about the 3 things you are lacking.
Clarity, Confidence, and Conviction.
Clarity around your Calling, Confidence in what God is calling you to do and the Conviction in your ability to represent your values and principles.
If you lack one or more of these then you’ll begin to overthink the situation which then leads to procrastination.
You procrastinate because you don’t know the outcome or in some cases how you will get to the outcome.
However, when you have Clarity around your Calling, Confidence in what God is asking you to do, and the Conviction in your own ability to represent your values and principles then and only then will you be able to fully embrace God’s Calling.
If you are anything like me you might be thinking but how do I get Clarity?
How do I get the Confidence needed to do what God is asking?
How… do I become Convicted in my own ability to represent my values and principles?
Honestly, these are all mindset issues that can be shifted with a Biblical perspective.
