Fear of the Unknown: How to Overcome Fear When Embracing God’s Calling

Are you reluctant to take a leap of faith in God’s Calling for your life due to the fear of the unknown?

Did you know the Bible tells us 365 times to Fear Not? I was just reading somewhere that is actually 366 to include leap years because God doesn’t want us to fear.

Regardless of how many times it is in the Bible it is evident that we are not supposed to fear. Especially the unknown.

Think about it… why get so caught up in the unknown? Maybe it is unknown for a reason.

I see this all the time with clients. They want to embrace God’s Calling on their life but the moment they don’t know something they become paralyzed or make excuses why they can’t move forward.

And yes I said make excuses. I know that may sound harsh but the truth is we all do it. We all make excuses especially when fear of the unknown pops up in our lives.

We especially do this when we have a lack of information, clarity, or the outcome is simply unpredictable.

I was reading an email earlier today titled Everything Works.

In the email the writer talked about how everything works, every diet, every program, every exercise plan, it all works.

She went on to ask “So why don’t people get results?”

The answer was simple.

Because they don’t. They don’t work. They don’t keep working. They quit.

Simple as that.

I know you are probably wondering what this has to do with fear…… right?

Well it got me thinking about how we quit on God.

Seriously, that is the only explanation as to how the fear of the unknown could even possibly grip its slimy little fingers around our thoughts.

We simply give up and quit on God.

There are so many people in the world that have a big dream that they will never go after.

Nope. They won’t even try.

There is a saying that the cemetery is the wealthiest place on earth. In graves all over the world lay best selling books that were never written, companies that never started, coaches who never made an impact, and Christians who never embraced their calling.

If you are anything like you are asking yourself how to fix this fear problem.

Have you ever been in church and the Pastor gives a great sermon but then leaves you hanging with the How? Or at least you think he left you hanging….

What I have come to realize is they do in fact tell us the how but we are often too busy to hear it.

In fact I’m about to tell you the How. How to overcome fear. But you won’t hear it if you aren’t ready to hear it.

It is actually pretty simple.

The secret to overcoming fear is simply to focus on God. That’s it, friend!

Focus on God because He will move on your behalf when you focus on Him vs. your fear.

All the cemeteries in the world are simply full of people who quit on God.

Joyce Meyer said on her blog: “This “do it afraid” theory is something God began teaching me years ago.

I saw that when He told Joshua to “fear not” (see Joshua 8:1), He was actually warning him that fear would try to stop him from moving ahead with God’s plan for his life; instead of letting fear control him, he needed to be strong and full of courage and to keep going forward.

He needed to fight and win the battle against fear so he could experience the victory of fulfilling God’s plan and enjoy everything God had for him.”

There you have it, friend.

Everything works…. When you overcome fear by focusing on God when embracing your Calling.

That’s all I have for today.

As always I will leave you with something to think about: If faith and fear both demand you believe in something you cannot see then why not choose faith?
