God’s Calling: From disqualified to qualified by God’s grace and mercy

Does God’s calling on your life have you feeling disqualified?

You are probably thinking doesn’t she mean unqualified.

Well yes and no. See there is a difference between unqualified and disqualified.

Unqualified is when you feel unworthy due to your past failures, poor education, low self-worth, family history, etc. This means you have an “Identity Disorder.”

Your identity is in Christ, not your past mistakes.

Disqualified is when you feel unworthy due to your past sin, your past disobedience, unforgiveness, etc. Simply put you’re not understanding God’s grace and mercy.

This was my story. I felt disqualified when God called me to encourage and inspire other Christians, like you, to step into your own unique calling.

I felt disqualified because of my past sins and disobedience.

Oftentimes I would dwell over the things I did in my past like experimenting with drugs, alcohol, and even sex.

There are things I’ve done that I’m ashamed of.

In fact it took me a really long time to understand that I was the only one holding onto those things.

God had forgiven me the moment I asked Him. Yet I was holding onto them out of pity for myself.

When I finally understood God’s grace and mercy everything changed.

Just like unqualified and disqualified, grace and mercy are different too.

God’s mercy and God’s grace are not the same things, even though they are often mentioned together.

In many ways they overlap; usually when God pours out his mercy, he pours out his grace as well.

Psalm 86:1 says: But you, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness.

This is mercy: We have all sinned against God and to be honest we deserve eternal wrath in hell.

The difference between grace and mercy is that mercy is not getting what we deserve.

For example, when I nearly died in 2009 after giving birth to my son instead of sending me straight to hell, God showed me mercy and gave me another chance to step into His calling for my life.

Ephesian 2:10 -says:  For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

This is proof that whether you feel unqualified or disqualified, like I did, God can and will qualify you through his grace and mercy.

Ephesians 2:8 says: For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God…

See the difference? In his mercy God withholds WHAT WE DESERVE; in his grace God heaps upon us infinite blessings that WE DO NOT DESERVE.

In mercy he withholds eternal wrath; and in grace HE  pours out upon us what we COULD NEVER HAVE ON OUR OWN: Eternal life, infinite joy, being one with Christ, being made like Christ.

The one thing that stuck with me the most was the infinite joy. See when you step into and embrace your calling you will experience a JOY like never before.

Pure Joy comes from helping others.

I love how Tom Ziglar puts in his book Choose To Win. He says “Joy is the fruit of your labor when your words and your actions allow others to release the potential inside of them.

That is exactly where my Joy comes from. Helping Christians just like you step into and embrace God’s calling on your life so that you can release the potential inside of you.

What is God’s Calling on your life? What is it that is making you feel unqualified or disqualified?

As always I will leave you with something to think about: You can’t be disqualified or unqualified for something you were never qualified for in the first place.
